There's only one America, not two...
As economist Arnold Kling noted in his article today at Tech Central Station, the middle class hasn't disappeared (as the class-warfare-provoking liberals would lead you to believe), but rather, it's the lower class that has diminished. This table shows the percentage of households lacking basic necessities during two time periods:
