Man Pays $100 for 125,000 Bottles of Wine

The winning bidder at an auction for 125,000 bottles of wine paid only $100 for the deal. Not per bottle. Total. Only 3 people showed up for the auction. When one guy was asked to leave because he was a member of the selling party intent only on bidding up the price, that left Ken Jacques (the ultimate winner) and a multimillionaire. Here's what happened next: bq. "[The millionaire] looked at me and checked me out like we were playing poker," Jacques said. "I anticipated we'd have a couple buyers there to purchase everything for $100,000 to $150,000." bq. Jacques threw down $100, and when the millionaire didn't bid, Jacques won. bq. "I could have easily bid just a dollar," Jacques said, in retrospect. "But that just didn't seem right - it was too sweet of a deal." But here's the best line: bq. "Without a doubt, this was the single most exciting transaction I've ever been involved in," Jacques said. Gee, do you think? HT: Wizbang!
