Georgia Is Bigger Than Georgia?

If the American states were independent countries, California (8), New York (16), Texas (17), and Florida (19), would all rank in the Top 20 according to Gross Domestic Product.

Georgia, the American state, is 21 times larger than Georgia, the country that was formerly part of the Soviet Union ($320B vs. $15B).

South Dakota's GDP is larger than Cuba's ($26.5B vs. $25.9B) even though Cuba has 14 times as many people (770,000 vs. 11.3M).

Nebraska's GDP is 60% larger than Libya's ($65.7B vs. $41B) even though Libya has more than 3 times as many people (1.7M vs. 5.7M)

Indiana and Sweden have roughly the same GDP, but Sweden has almost 50% more people (6.2M vs. 9M).

These kinds of numbers always blow my mind. I'm constantly in awe, but never surprised, at what this country can do. It's exactly what the free market is all about, baby...
