Boondoggle at the CDC
An anonymous employee for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) blogs about how the government agency is squandering money on wasteful, "opulent rather than functional" buildings. And the blogger does it on the "unofficial blog for employees of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention." Excerpt: bq. Money has been squandered on $500+ European Guest chairs when American made chairs on GSA schedule or from UNICOR could have been purchased for under $150/each. The expensive chairs are already falling apart. bq. Contracts for Furniture design and purchase have been given to General Contractors, to circumvent federal purchasing requirements, increasing costs over 30%. bq. Building costs have over run budgets because of the CDC OD's desire for a monument and visitor center/museum. Why do we have 20 different carpets when 5 or less would have been the norm? Man, I love the internet. It's like shining a bright light and watching all the cockroaches scurry around to avoid summary punishment. HT: Senator Tom Coburn's office
