More on Lobbying Reform
One of our allies is apparently critical of our decision to score a "NO" vote on lobbying reform because the bill portends to make a solid advancement with regards to earmark reform. However, we are key-voting a "NO" on this bill because Leadership has decided to attach anti-free speech language to it. Let's keep our eye on the ball, here. The House leadership has made a mockery of fiscal discipline for much too long now. Time after time, they have allowed egregious spending bills to pass through their chamber. Now that they have been forced by movement fiscal conservatives to clean up their act, we should allow them to do it at the expense of free speech? Earmark reform is a great advancement, but we shouldn't do it by trampling on the 1st Amendment. And don't forget that the onus is on House leadership. They are the ones attaching the anti-free speech language to this bill. They are the ones who have forced this situation upon us. If there is any group in this town that can be relied upon to be consistent and true to its principles, it's the Club for Growth. Our allies shouldn't be surprised that we are key-voting this bill. If anything, they should be adamantly critical of leadership for putting all of us in this position in the first place.
