Eminent Domain Abuse
From the tireless Don Boudreaux: bq. 24 June 2005 bq. Editor, The New York Post bq. To the Editor: bq. The Supreme Court says that property can be seized from private citizen Smith and transferred to private citizen Jones as long as the government declares that the seizure serves a good cause ("Supreme Court Rules Cities May Seize Homes," June 24). bq. So let's see. If I poke a gun in my neighbor's nose and demand that he "sell" his house to me, I would be arrested. But if I get a city council to poke the gun on my behalf - in exchange for my promise to generate handsome tax revenues for the city - all's well and constitutionally okie-dokie. bq. Makes sense...for a nation that worships power and disdains liberty. bq. Sincerely, Donald J.
