A Dumb and Dumber Idea
Want to relocate your business? Looking for a state that is hospitable for commerce? It's generally a good rule of thumb to NOT move to a state that is spending taxpayers' dollars on nationwide TV ads that try to convince people to do business in its state. It's usually an effort of last resort done by a state government that is otherwise unwilling to enact pro-growth legislation.
Case in point: Michigan. For the past several mornings, I keep seeing a cheesy ad on CNBC that features actor Jeff Daniels, who touts the state's supposed greatness (an extended version of the ad is here).
My humble suggestion? Stop the TV ads, return the money to the taxpayers, and lower taxes and loosen regulations. Remove the anti-growth obstacles and they will come.
It will work everyday and twice on Sundays.
