Someone Thinks Highly of Himself
When a candidate runs for office, they have to pick an official name for their campaign. If John Smith is running, it is usually, "Smith for Congress" or "Smith for Senate". Sometimes people will get creative and name it something more colorful like "Friends of John Smith" or "New Yorkers for Smith" to give the impression that the campaign is a larger, more community-based effort (when it comes to politics, every little bit helps).
But sometimes, I think candidates go slightly overboard. As I was trolling through the most recent 3rd quarter FEC filings, I came across David Obey's campaign. Obey is a liberal appropriator from Wisconsin who has been in the House for 37 loooong years. In his Almanac of American Politics, Michael Barone described Obey as "a true believer in traditional liberalism, in Keynesian economics and economic distribution."
Obey thinks highly of himself and his campaign name reveals it -- "Lot of People for David Obey".
