Has a Truce Been Made?

I'm getting word from the Hill that Reid is negotiating with DeMint. He is seeking some small modifications to DeMint's amendment that, it would seem to me, would give him a face-saving exit to this debacle.

I'm told that the changes aren't substantive. Rest assure, DeMint's not going to back down from his position. However, I suspect he doesn't want to beat up on Reid if he can allow him to gracefully put this behind him. That way, DeMint gets what he wants while demonstrating to the Senate (where feelings are always sensitive) that he's not all about throwing bombs and burning bridges.

If this gets resolved the way it looks like it will, then the Senate will allow the modified amendment to pass by a voice vote. If, on the other hand, DeMint's office believes that the changes are too substantial, then we're back to square one.

More as it develops...
