Palin Stands Up to Porkers

Club for Growth PAC Praises Alaska Governor for Standing up to Porkers, Releases New Poll Numbers

Washington – Today, the Club for Growth PAC praised Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for standing up to her state’s famous porkers, Republican Senator Ted Stevens and Republican Representative Don Young, notorious for securing $223 million in taxpayer money for Alaska’s “Bridge to Nowhere.”

According to the Associated Press, Governor Palin ordered the state transportation department to abandon the taxpayer-funded travesty connecting Gravina Island, population 50, to a larger island in southeastern Alaska and find the most “fiscally responsible” alternative for accessing the airport on Gravina Island.

According to poll numbers released by the Club for Growth PAC in July, Republican primary voters in Alaska are fed up with their representatives’ wasteful spending. 66% of respondents disapproved of spending taxpayer dollars on the “Bridge to Nowhere,” while 71% favored cutting federal spending even at the cost of reducing Alaska’s share of federal funds.

Furthermore, it is clear that these same Alaska Republicans are rallying to reformer Sarah Palin over the ethically-challenged porker Ted Stevens. According to never-before released poll numbers, the Club for Growth PAC found that Governor Palin has a sky-high favorability rating of 89% among Republican primary voters and an unfavorability rating of only 4%! In addition, Governor Palin would clean Senator Stevens’ pork-filled clock in a head-to-head primary challenge, winning 56%-32%.

“Clearly, Alaska taxpayers are sick and tired of wasteful spending and outlandish pork projects,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “Like the rest of the country, Republican primary voters in Alaska are ready for a change and are rallying to the fiscally responsible leadership embodied by Governor Palin.”

The following poll surveyed 300 likely Republican primary voters in Alaska on July 15, 2007. It was conducted by Basswood Research and has a margin of error of +/-5.66%.
