Peace Gardens and Baseball Stadiums

The Senate should be ashamed of itself. Tom Coburn's anti-pork amendments -- there were three of them -- were rolled up into one roll call vote this morning. He sought to defund a $450,000 earmark that would finance the "International Peace Garden" in North Dakota and a $500,000 earmark to finance a baseball stadium in Montana. He also tried to remove funding for the Wetlands Center in Louisiana.

Why exactly should taxpayers pay for these pork projects? Who knows, but the Senate put us on the hook for them by killing the Coburn amendments, 63-32.
