Club for Growth PAC Endorses Steve Buehrer in OH-05
Washington – Today, the Club for Growth PAC endorsed Republican State Senator Steve Buehrer in the special election for Ohio’s fifth congressional district.
Since his election to the Ohio State House in 1998, Senator Buehrer has demonstrated a pro-growth record steeped in principle and courage. In 2003, he voted against Republican Governor Bob Taft’s budget, which included the largest tax hike in state history and a 10% increase in spending. Even though Buehrer suffered retaliation from his Republican colleagues for his 2003 stand, he didn’t waver two years later, opposing the second largest tax hike in Ohio history in 2005. He has also been a leader in the fight for limited government and individual freedom, voting against costly healthcare mandates and other regulatory burdens.
In contrast, his chief primary opponent, Republican State Senator Robert Latta, has a record of supporting higher taxes, including voting for the 2003 tax hike Buehrer opposed. He also displays classic signs of a big-government Republican, voting for increased government regulation at the state level.
“Ohio taxpayers would be lucky to have Steve Buehrer standing up for them in the United States Congress just as he stood up for them in the Ohio Legislature,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “Unfortunately, Bob Latta is trying to sell himself as an economic conservative, hoping he can paper over his tax-happy record during the short five weeks until the primary special election. The Club for Growth PAC will do everything in its power to make sure voters in Ohio’s fifth congressional district know the truth about Sen. Latta’s tax hikes and Sen. Buehrer’s stellar record.”
