Club PAC Endorses Scalise in LA-01

Club for Growth PAC Endorses Steve Scalise in LA-01

Washington – The Club for Growth PAC endorsed State Senator Steve Scalise in the special election in Louisiana’s First Congressional District to fill the seat vacated by the recently elected governor, Bobby Jindal.

Steve Scalise has been a pro-growth star in the Louisiana Legislature since his election in 1996. While serving in the Louisiana House of Representatives, Scalise helped lead the fight against Republican Governor Mike Foster’s proposed tax hikes and spending increases. Over his decade-plus years in the State Legislature, Scalise developed a reputation for being an advocate of pro-growth reforms. He is responsible for killing a multi-million dollar slush fund for New Orleans parish politicians. He also pushed for spending caps in the 2007 budget.

Scalise’s main opponent Slidell Mayor Ben Morris has a record of pushing for higher taxes and spending, including higher sales and property taxes. Morris’ record stands in stark contrast to Scalise’s history of fighting to protect Louisiana’s taxpayers.

“Steve Scalise has a strong record of fighting for lower taxes and less government, and we are confident he will continue that strong record if elected to Congress,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “Steve Scalise is exactly the kind of representative Louisiana taxpayers need in Congress.”
