Obama Swears Off Earmarks for FY09
An alert Hill staffer pointed me to this Obama press release, in which he announced his support for Jim DeMint's amendment. This decision was picked up by the press, but if you read the release carefully, you'll see that he also has sworn off earmarks for the year. Excerpt:
"The entire earmarks process needs to be re-examined and reformed. For that reason, I will be supporting Senator DeMint's amendment and will not be requesting earmarks this year for Illinois. Over the next year, I hope to work with my colleagues, both Democratic and Republican, to improve the earmarks process."
Now the only question that remains is, "Where's Hillary on this issue?"
