Seward's Folly

Just over 141 years ago, the U.S. government bought Alaska for $7.2 million (1.9 cents an acre).

That's equivalent to $104 million in 2007 dollars. By comparison, Alaska's senior senator, Ted Stevens, was able to secure $325 million in pork projects in 2006.
