Letter to a Pennsylvania Newspaper
I sent the following letter last week to the Pottsville Republican & Herald newspaper in Pennsylvania:
To the editor:
Rep. Tim Holden said he was proud of every earmark that he sponsored last year (“‘Ed McMahon Syndrome’? Gilhooley, Holden voice differences over earmarks”, March 24, 2008).
Does that mean he was also proud of the earmarks that he supported for other districts? Holden voted to fund a prison museum in Kansas and a ballet theater in New York. He also voted to fund the Mule and Packers Museum in California and the Houston Zoo in Texas. I could go on and on and on. Millions of dollars wasted thanks to Holden.
He also said that there’s a “vetting process that is open and transparent.” But what he isn’t telling you is that pork projects are not subjected to congressional hearings, competitive bidding, over even minimal oversight.
Everyone knows that pork projects are a waste of tax dollars. Except Rep. Holden.
