Willie McGee Is On My Desk

Sadness, shame, and despondency are not uncommon feelings for a Cubs fan. I should know. I've gone through the 5 stages of grief several times throughout the years (this was a particularly tough moment).

This weekend was another such moment. The Cubs played their long time rival, the St. Louis Cardinals, in a 3-game series starting on Friday at Busch Stadium. Earlier that day, my friend Caleb, who is an (irrational) Cards fan, extended a wager to me. If the Cubs win the series, he'll put a framed picture of former Cub outfielder Brian McRae on his desk until the Cubs and Cards play again this year (July 4th). If the Cards win, I have to put a framed picture of Cards outfielder Willie McGee on my desk.

On Friday, the Cards barely won the first game, 5-3, in extra innings. The Cubs came storming back and won the second game decisively, 9-3. Then, last night was the rubber match.

It pains me to say this, but this is on my desk (here's another pic).
