New Club PAC Ads in AZ-05

Club for Growth PAC Releases New TV and Radio Ads in AZ-05

Washington - Today, Club for Growth PAC announced new television and radio ads in Arizona's Fifth Congressional District. The television ad will start running tomorrow on broadcast television and cable systems in the Phoenix market; the radio ad begins today. Both ads will run through primary day on September 2 (listen to radio ad here).

Both the television and radio ads seek to show voters just how liberal Susan Bitter Smith is on economic issues. Bitter Smith is attempting to portray herself as a conservative, but she neglects to mention that she voted for an 18% property tax increase as a member of the Scottsdale City Council. When she ran for Congress in 2000, she opposed a ballot initiative to eliminate the state's income tax in order to win the endorsement of a labor union. She also refuses to sign a pledge opposing wasteful earmark spending, which other candidates-like conservative David Schweikert-have signed.

"Throughout the decade in a half in which Susan Bitter Smith has been involved in politics, her record has been consistently liberal on economic issues," said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. "She supported a huge tax increase when she was a city council member in the early nineties and she refuses to fight wasteful spending today as a congressional candidate. Susan Bitter Smith can call herself a conservative, but when voters look at her record, they will see just how liberal she truly is."
