Club for Growth Urging Four GOP Lawmakers to Oppose New Consumer Tax

Doug Sachtleben - April 18th, 2017

“Constituents of Reps. Black, Culberson, Rice, and Roby should urge their Representative to oppose the new BAT tax.”

Washington, DC – Club for Growth president David McIntosh released the following statement about Club for Growth’s new TV and digital ad campaign urging four Republican lawmakers to oppose the Border Adjustment tax:

“All of the good progress Congress is poised to make on tax reform could be sunk if Republicans persist in creating a new trillion-dollar consumer tax,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “The BAT would drive up prices on everyday items for typical American families. Constituents in these four districts should urge their Representative to oppose the BAT, which would slam hard-working families with a massive new tax.”

The Club’s new ads are linked below. They will run on TV and digital platforms as part of a $500,000 ad buy starting today in the districts of the following House members:

TN-06            Rep. Diane Black

AL-02             Rep. Martha Roby

SC-07             Rep. Tom Rice

TX-07             Rep. John Culberson

Phase Two of Club for Growth’s Obamacare Repeal Ad Campaign Starts in Ten House Districts

Doug Sachtleben - April 13th, 2017

“Obamacare repeal is being held up by Republican moderates who are trying to keep as much of Obamacare in place they can.”

Washington, DC – Club for Growth president David McIntosh released the following statement about Club for Growth’s anti-Obamcare TV and digital ads that begin today in ten House districts:

“Obamacare repeal made it to the one-yard line, before it was held up by Republican moderates who are trying to keep as much of Obamacare in place as they can,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “The Trump Administration and conservatives rallied behind a deal –  facilitated last week by Vice President Pence – for state waivers of costly Obamacare regulations, but that can’t happen until moderates accept the deal. They have to repeal the regulations to repeal Obamacare. It’s now up to constituents to demand an end to Obamacare, with reforms that will actually lower premiums.”

The Club’s new ad can be seen here and will run on TV and digital platforms starting on April 13 in the districts of the following House members:

AZ-02 Martha McSally
IL-16 Adam Kinzinger
NC-10 Patrick McHenry
NJ-11 Rodney Frelinghuysen
NY-27 Chris Collins
OH-12 Pat Tiberi
OR-02 Greg Walden
PA-15 Charlie Dent
PA-18 Timothy F. Murphy
WV-03 Evan Jenkins

Moderate Republicans Are Stopping Obamacare Repeal… Again

Doug Sachtleben - April 05th, 2017

“This is big-government liberalism at work among House Republicans and Speaker Ryan is letting them run his conference.”

Washington, DC – Club for Growth president David McIntosh released the following statement after Republican moderates in the House torpedoed a deal to repeal Obamacare:

“The left wing among House Republicans doesn’t want to compromise or keep their pledge to voters to repeal Obamacare,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “They’ve rejected deals that would give Americans more choices for cheaper health insurance, and now they won’t even allow states the chance to scale back Obamacare’s costliest regulations. Conservatives, including the Club for Growth, were willing to accept the latest deal that would let states seek regulation waivers, but moderates want Obamacare largely left intact. This is big-government liberalism at work among House Republicans and Speaker Ryan is letting them run his conference. The Speaker needs to stand up to the moderates who are putting the GOP’s 2018 future in jeopardy by undermining President Trump’s Obamacare repeal promise.”

Three Steps the American People Want in Obamacare Repeal

Doug Sachtleben - March 30th, 2017

“We’re glad to see Speaker Ryan is ready to work with conservatives to improve Obamacare repeal, and to bring back competition and lower health insurance costs.”

Washington, DC – Club for Growth president David McIntosh released the following statement after House Speaker Paul Ryan said he was open to “improvements” to the health care bill:

“We are glad to see Speaker Paul Ryan is ready to work with conservatives to improve Obamacare repeal, and to bring back competition and lower health insurance costs, just as President Trump promised. To do that, the repeal effort needs to include these core principles that will drive down the cost of health insurance:

  • Interstate competition in the House or Senate version
  • The rollback of more costly Obamacare insurance regulations, which will lead to savings in federal spending on tax credits
  • Handling pre-existing conditions with state high-risk pools

“If House leadership remains stuck on an Obamacare bill that does not deal with these issues, Republicans will pay the price in 2018 when health care costs are continuing to spike upward,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “Polls show that the American people overwhelmingly rejected last week’s flawed House bill. House conservatives are working to fix it, and Speaker Ryan needs to ensure that the House bill is focused on the priorities of the American people.”

Club for Growth on the Way Forward for Obamacare Repeal

Doug Sachtleben - March 24th, 2017

“Take the three phases of President Trump’s agenda and put them all into a new House bill.”

Washington, DC – Club for Growth president David McIntosh released the following statement after House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that there would be no vote on his health care bill:

“There is a way forward: Take the three phases of President Trump’s agenda and put them all into a new House bill,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “Unite Obamacare repeal with the repeal of Obamcare regulations, and add in the free-market, cost-saving reforms that the president campaigned on, including interstate competition. Give the House a straight up-or-down vote on THAT measure. Republican voters will rally behind it with overwhelming support, and the Senate can take it up and address its rules.”

“President Trump was elected because millions of Americans wanted a full repeal of Obamacare, followed by free-market health care reform that would give them competition, choice, and lower prices. This bill became a Frankenstein meant to appease the insurance industry and Republicans who really want to keep parts of Obamacare. Now’s the time to do it right.”
