Doug Lamborn - Colorado's 5th District

Doug Lamborn
PRIMARY DATE: August 8, 2006
It never ceases to amaze us how many tax-hiking Republicans run in Republican districts when a seat opens up in Congress. You read that right, tax-hiking Republicans.
In just a few weeks, there will be a primary for an open Republican seat created by the retirement of Congressman Joel Hefley in Colorado's 5th congressional district.
There are five major candidates in this race, and four of them have tax-hikes in their background.
Fortunately, the one candidate who is solidly anti-tax has a good chance to win, but only supporters like you help today.
Before we get to the cast of characters running against Doug Lamborn, let's look at his record. He has never voted for a tax increase (and never will). Currently a state senator, Doug sponsored the largest tax cut in state history and got the #1 taxpayer friend ranking in the State Senate in five of the last 6 years from Colorado's leading taxpayer group. (The other year he tied for second, 1% back.)
Doug has a backbone. When the state's Republican governor campaigned for a tax increase referendum, Doug publicly fought hard against him.
He is exactly the kind of principled Republican we need more of in Congress. And because this is a safe Republican seat, the winner 7 weeks from now may hold this seat for a very long time.
Doug has four high-profile opponents in the primary. Jeff Crank, a former congressional aide, has a very spotty record on taxes as a leader of a local business group that repeatedly backed tax hikes or opposed tax cuts. Lionel Rivera, the mayor of Colorado Springs, was an ardent supporter for the referendum that would have lifted the state's tax and spending limit. Another candidate, former El Paso County sheriff John Anderson, consistently supported permanent property tax increases. And former El Paso County commissioner Duncan Bremer voted for five different tax hikes while in office.
Doug's opponents all have one thing in common -- they've all supported higher taxes. So let's do all we can to make sure Doug wins this race on August 8 and beats the tax hikers!
