Key Vote Alert – House and Senate: “NO” on One Week Continuing Resolution

  |

“NO” on One Week Continuing Resolution

The Club for Growth opposes the one-week Continuing Resolution and urges all Representatives and Senators to vote NO on the bill. A vote is likely to occur soon. The results of this vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2022 congressional scorecard.

Funding for the federal government expires on December 16. Predictably, Congress failed to enact appropriations bills and has pushed this responsibility to the end of the year so that a Christmas package of legislation can be made law prior to the end of Nancy Pelosi’s speakership and Senator Patrick Leahy’s Chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee.

Recent reports indicate a deal has been agreed upon by Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats, as well as House Democrats. But House Republicans are not a part of this agreement despite winning a new House Majority for the 118th Congress. Passing a short-term CR that accommodates an Omnibus during the Lame Duck session of Congress completely undercuts the new House Republican Majority. In fact, there is no precedent for passing an Omnibus during a Lame Duck session of Congress when the Majority has changed parties. Congress has never done it before.

Instead, Congress should responsibly fund government with a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) that funds government at current levels into the early weeks of 2023 in order to allow for the new House Republican Majority to represent the will of voters that placed them in power in November in new negotiations in order to fund the federal government in 2023.

Club for Growth Foundation’s Congressional Scorecard for the 117th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to the public.
