Key Vote Alert – House & Senate – NO on CR

  |

“NO” on Continuing Resolution

The Club for Growth opposes the Continuing Resolution and urges all Senators and Representatives to vote NO. The results of this vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2022 congressional scorecard.

Throughout America, families are getting crushed by the not-so-hidden tax – inflation. Congress has done nothing to address the historic level of inflation that has effectively wiped out a month of working families’ salaries in buying power. This Continuing Resolution (CR) will hurt working families even more because it is meant to accommodate a Lame Duck Omnibus that will be loaded with even more money for President Biden’s agenda that is causing this outrageous level of inflation.

Too often CRs have been used by the Uniparty in order to allow for enormous spending deals at a time that is politically difficult for Senators and Representatives – the holidays. This CR is no different and was written with an expiration date of December 16th. By giving itself a deadline during the Christmas season, Congress is creating a recipe for the biggest Omnibus appropriations bill in US history.

Furthermore, the Lame Duck session of Congress will empower unaccountable Senators and Representatives that are retiring or lost their re-election campaigns. Coincidentally, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee are retiring from the Senate.

Nothing good happens after midnight, and in lawmaking, nothing good happens during a Lame Duck. For nearly twenty years, Congress has repeatedly refused to engage in a meaningful appropriations process to allow for single-appropriations bills in order to avoid an end-of-the-year Omnibus. Make no mistake, this CR accommodates a Lame Duck Christmas spending bender by the same people that have more than doubled the National Debt over the past 11 years.

Unless the date of the CR is amended to avoid a Lame Duck spending binge, lawmakers that vote for it should be ashamed of their cowardice and inability to responsibly manage taxpayer dollars.

Club for Growth Foundation’s Congressional Scorecard for the 117th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to the public.
