Key Vote Alert – “NO” on FY17 Continuing Resolution
KEY VOTE ALERT
“NO” on FY17 Continuing Resolution
The Club for Growth urges all members of Congress to oppose the FY17 continuing resolution (HR 5325). Votes are expected in both chambers today and later this week. These votes will be included in the Club for Growth’s 2016 Congressional Scorecard.
Continuing resolutions, even in their cleanest form, should typically be opposed because they represent a dereliction of duty on behalf of Congress. This is because there is very little debate, few (if any) opportunities to amend the language, and very little time to even read the proposal.
The FY17 continuing resolution is even worse. Leaders in both parties have agreed to tack on non-germane riders and promises to consider “sidecar” legislation at another time. This deal also extends government funding only into a lame duck session of Congress, providing ample opportunity for more unaccountable mischief to occur after the November elections.
Our Congressional Scorecard for the 114th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.
