KEY VOTE ALERT

“NO” on Highway Trust Fund Bailout (HR 5021)

The Club for Growth urges all Senators to oppose the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014 (HR 5021).  A vote is expected later this week or next week.  This vote will be included in the Club for Growth’s 2014 Congressional Scorecard.

This bill uses budget gimmicks and fee increases to bail out a wasteful and inefficient program that shouldn’t even exist.  The Senate should dismiss the House bill, and instead, promote comprehensive reforms that will prevent a future bailout from occurring.  Or, at the very least, they should cut spending elsewhere in the budget.  Senators should vote “NO” on HR 5021 and then consider co-sponsoring the Transportation Empowerment Act (S 1702), which dramatically reduces the federal gas tax and devolves most transportation authority back to the states.

Our Congressional Scorecard for the 113th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.
