KEY VOTE ALERT

Cures Act (HR 6)

The Club for Growth urges all House members to vote YES on the Brat-McClintock-Garrett-Stutzman-Perry amendment (#29) to the 21st Century Cures Act (HR 6). The Club for Growth also urges a NO vote on the underlying bill. Votes on the amendment and the bill are expected tomorrow (7/10/15). These votes will be included in the Club for Growth’s 2015 Congressional Scorecard.

This bill creates a new line of mandatory spending, adding more than $9 billion dollars to spending that will run on autopilot for the next five years. By shifting this spending from discretionary to mandatory, Congress is taking an end run around the sequestration spending caps. The Brat amendment would shift the spending back to discretionary. In addition, this bill uses a pay-for – selling off parts of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve – that sets a new low for budgetary gimmickry.

Our Congressional Scorecard for the 114th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.
