Key Vote Alert – House – “YES” on H. Con Res 14 – Establishing the Congressional Budget for the United States Government for Fiscal Year 2025 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034
The Club for Growth urges all Representatives to vote YES on H. Con Res 14 – Establishing the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034 – which would unlock needed reconciliation instructions. The results of this vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2025 congressional scorecard.
Conservatives were elected in November with a mandate to end the economic malaise of the Biden administration and return to the common-sense, pro-growth principles that led to 3% GDP growth and the lowest – all without the crippling inflation that defined the Biden era. A non-negotiable part of this effort is:
- Preventing a $4.6 trillion tax hike that would deal a crushing blow to American families and small businesses by extending the 2017 Trump tax cuts
- Cutting excessive government spending
- Reining in the regulatory state.
- Passing additional pro-growth tax cuts such as indexing capital gains for inflation and accelerated expensing for investments in structures to create jobs and boost wages.
The passage of the reconciliation instructions within this budget resolution– strongly supported by President Trump – is the critical first step to achieving all of these priorities.
If the Trump tax cuts expire, the typical American family will face a $1,695 tax hike, while American small businesses will be forced to bear a significantly higher cost of capital due to the loss of critical tax relief. Preventing what would be the largest tax hike in American history while expanding on the TCJA – such as through accelerated expensing of capital investments – requires swift action on this resolution. Additionally, the resolution includes instructions for $2 trillion in spending reductions, one of the largest single cuts in American history. Finally, the resolution includes a policy statement calling for the enactment of the REINS Act, arguably the most far-reaching proposal for Congress to reclaim its Article I authority and supercharge economic growth by significantly downsizing the unelected and often unaccountable fourth branch of government.
The House must deliver on the promise to deliver tax relief to the American people and advance the budget resolution without delay so the real work of extending the Trump tax cuts can be brought to the floor of the House and Senate.
