Key Vote Alert – “NO” on Confirmation of Neera Tanden to be Director of the Office of Management & Budget (OMB)

Club for Growth strongly opposes the confirmation of Neera Tanden to be Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Her confirmation will be considered soon in the United States Senate. The result of the vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2021 Congressional Scorecard.

Neera Tanden is the President and CEO of the Center for American Progress, a leftist organization that is working to advance socialism in America through “shared global prosperity.” Tanden has worked closely with progressives on Capitol Hill to advance the Green New Deal and has praised the Green New Deal as a way “to create high-quality jobs in the industries of the future, protect our communities from extreme weather and economic damage, and build a better and more equitable country for our children and grandchildren.” In reality, the Green New Deal would cause the economy to completely collapse and would destroy tens of millions of jobs, while costing nearly $100 trillion.

Tanden’s nomination to be Director of the Office and Management and Budget (OMB) comes at a time when senior officials in the Biden Administration are working to pass trillions of dollars of partisan COVID relief legislation through Congress via reconciliation – legislation that creates significantly more dependency on government and stifles the U.S. economy through anti-growth stimulus spending. Such fiscal irresponsibility of the federal coffers must not be permitted at a time when the U.S. economy is projected by the Congressional Budget Office to return to pre-COVID economic growth levels prior to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Tanden was a senior staffer in the Obama Administration at the Department of Health and Human Services and worked with President Obama to destroy competition and choice in the healthcare marketplace by passing Obamacare. If confirmed by the Senate, she will advance the radical left’s mission to pass Medicare For All, killing millions of patients’ access to high-quality health insurance in the private health care marketplace.

At the highest levels of the federal government, people are policy. Allowing the confirmation of Tanden is a vote for the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, economic collapse, and socialism in America. Her nomination should be decisively rejected by Senators.

Club for Growth Foundation’s Congressional Scorecard for the 116th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to the public.
