KEY VOTE ALERT

“NO” on Tester Donor Intimidation Resolution (S.J.Res. 64)

The Club for Growth opposes S.J.Res. 64 and urges all Senators to vote NO on it.  A vote is expected as early as this afternoon.  The vote will be included in the Club’s 2018 congressional scorecard.

Using the process granted under the Congressional Review Act, Senator Jon Tester has offered a resolution that would disapprove of the recent IRS regulation that protects the privacy of donors to certain non-profit organizations.

It is the right of every American to speak out, and even privately fund efforts that question the motives and actions of our federal government.  When a government is able to force organizations to publicly disclose its donors, that same government and its supporters can intimidate and retaliate against its opponents.  This suppresses democracy and weakens 1st Amendment rights.

American citizens should view members of Congress who support this resolution with great skepticism.  They are directly working to restrict fundamental and constitutional rights and expand their own power.

Our Congressional Scorecard for the 115th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.
