KEY VOTE ALERT

“NO” on the Farm Bill Conference Report (HR 2)

The Club for Growth opposes the conference report for the farm bill (HR 2) and urges all members of Congress to vote NO on it.  A vote is expected in the House later this week, while the Senate abruptly just announced a vote this afternoon.  The vote will be included in the Club’s 2018 congressional scorecard.

Fiscal conservatives should demand that a Republican-controlled Congress produce (or even appear to produce) a fiscally conservative farm bill.  Sadly, that is not the case.  In fact, this conference report expands the role of government.  It spends almost $2 billion more than the current bloated farm and food stamp programs.  There are no reforms to SNAP work requirements.  Tighter eligibility for farm subsidies is absent – in fact, this bill expands eligibility.

It’s remarkable that members of Congress who support this bill seem completely oblivious to the ever-escalating national debt – now at almost $22 trillion.  Passage of this bill will only signal brazen contempt for taxpayers while paying tribute to special interests.

Our Congressional Scorecard for the 115th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.
