“NO” on Confirmation of Xavier Becerra to be Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services

  |

Club for Growth opposes the nomination of Xavier Becerra to be Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and urges all Senators to vote NO on confirmation of the nomination. The result of the vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2021 Congressional Scorecard.

Becerra is career politician, a partisan liberal, and an ardent supporter of Obamacare. As California’s Attorney General, Becerra has filed numerous lawsuits against Members of Congress that worked to dismantle it. Obamacare has created a health insurance crisis with soaring health insurance premiums with excessive regulation that has caused extremely limited choice in the health care marketplace.

Becerra will also work with President Biden to pass an Executive Order to re-instate the individual mandate, which was zeroed-out in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. The individual mandate tramples on health care freedom by forcing Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a “tax”. Becerra will also work to end Medicare as we know it by working to implement a Bernie Sanders Medicare For All, single-payer health care system that takes the current Medicare system away from seniors.

America’s health care system is broken because of the intrusion of the federal government in the health care marketplace and insistence to insert itself between patients and doctors. HHS should be led by a free market reformer that is willing to set aside partisanship in order to increase patients’ choice and competition in the health care marketplace.

Club for Growth Foundation’s Congressional Scorecard for the 116th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to the public.
