CfG President McIntosh Warns LA State Senate After School Freedom Failure

Washington, D.C. – Club for Growth President David McIntosh issued the following statement after the Louisiana legislature passed a budget Thursday morning that left the LA GATOR Scholarship Program critically underfunded. Despite strong support from Governor Landry and House Republicans to fully fund the program, the State Senate stripped $50 million included in the Governor’s budget proposal, denying school freedom to thousands of Louisiana students.

“As President Trump, Republican Governors, and conservative lawmakers across the nation are embracing school freedom, it is a profound disappointment to witness ruby-red Louisiana move in the wrong direction,” said McIntosh.  “Club for Growth is proud of our investment in supporting school choice in Louisiana and will work to ensure LA GATOR is fully funded in the future to meet growing demand. The so-called ‘Republicans’ who gutted this program are in for a rude awakening when voters hold them accountable for siding with liberal special interests over parents and students.”

Club for Growth Action and its affiliated School Freedom Fund defeated 14 Republicans who opposed school freedom, including 10 incumbent members of the Texas State House during the 2024 primary cycle. In 2025, Club for Growth has helped pass, protect, or expand school choice in 10 states – Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming.
