CfG President McIntosh Statement on President Trump, OMB $3B Spending Cuts
Washington, D.C. – Club for Growth President David McIntosh issued the following statement on the Trump Administration’s work to cut $3 billion in “emergency” spending from Biden’s Fiscal “Responsibility” Act:
“Fake emergency spending designations have allowed big spenders in Congress to bypass responsible spending controls and abuse the process that accommodates real emergency supplemental spending. President Trump’s refusal to concur with $3 billion in handouts from Kevin McCarthy and Biden’s Fiscal Irresponsibility Act – in accordance with appropriations law passed by Congress –brings accountability to every pocket of federal spending causing unending trillion-dollar deficits.” — David McIntosh, President, Club for Growth.
The 2023 Fiscal Responsibility Act used smoke and mirrors to increase spending above the “caps” in the underlying text by $69 billion – including $59 billion worth of gimmicks. This included $23 billion of discretionary funding falsely designated as “emergency” spending – eventually reduced to $12.4 billion, which was extended through the passage of the continuing resolution earlier this month. Longstanding language requires the President to concur with emergency spending designations, and for the first time ever, President Trump has declined to concur with $3 billion worth of this spending.
