Club for Growth Action Polling: Chip Roy Holds Dominating Lead in TX-21 Congressional Race

Today, Club for Growth Action released a poll that shows Republican Chip Roy with a twelve-point lead over his Democrat challenger Joseph Kopser; Roy has also reached 50% on the ballot.

Upon release of the poll, Club for Growth Action President David McIntosh noted, “This polling confirms what we knew from the very beginning.  Chip Roy is a strong candidate whose conservative message resonates with Texas voters who are eager to have a conservative champion fighting for them in Washington.”

Specifically, the polling revealed:

  • Name ID and Image:
    • Chip Roy has 65% name ID and favorables more than twice as high as his unfavorables.
    • Joseph Kopser has lower name ID at just 55% and his unfavorables are almost as high as his favorables.
  • Ballot:
    • Chip Roy leads Kopser by twelve points and is at 50% on the ballot. The libertarian candidate receives two percent and ten percent are undecided.
    • Roy also has strong leads among voters who have heard of both candidates and who have opinions of both.

The survey was conducted for Club for Growth Action by WPA Intelligence.  WPAi conducted 401 live telephone interviews (40% cell phone) on October 17-20, 2018, and the margin of error is ±4.9%.
