Club for Growth Action Polling Reveals Palmer is the Strongest Conservative in Alabama Senate Race

  |

Today, Club for Growth Action released a poll that shows a real conservative will win the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in Alabama – and that individual is not Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL).

Upon release of the poll, Club for Growth Action President David McIntosh noted, “This polling leaves no question that Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL) is the strongest candidate who could win the Alabama Senate seat for Republicans.  When voters know both candidates, their preference for Palmer is overwhelming by a margin of 57% to 26%.  And that’s because people who know Byrne, know he’s not a conservative.  The people of Alabama deserve better than a fake politician who says one thing in Alabama and votes the wrong way in Washington.  Alabamians already have that in Doug Jones.”

Specifically, the polling revealed:

  • Voters Who Know the Candidates Best Prefer Gary Palmer
    • Voters who have enough information to make real comparisons between the two candidates—those who have heard of both and those who have opinions of both—strongly prefer Palmer over Byrne.
    • These heard of and opinion of both metrics are important leading indicators and often predict how the race will evolve as more voters learn about the candidates.

The survey was conducted for Club for Growth Action by WPA Intelligence.  WPAi conducted a poll of n = 500 likely Republican Primary voters. Interviews were conducted via live telephone interview from February 10-12, 2019; 43% of the interviews were conducted via cell phone. The survey has a margin of error of +4.4%.
