Club for Growth Announces 2022 Defenders of Economic Freedom Awards
Washington, D.C. – Club for Growth announced that 50 members of the United States House of Representatives and 7 United States Senators will receive the Club for Growth’s 2022 Defenders of Economic Freedom Award. The Defender of Economic Freedom Award is an annual award given out to the top performers from the Club for Growth Foundation’s annual Federal Economic Scorecard – the premier resource for assessing the voting behavior of Members of Congress for key legislation pertaining to limited government and economic growth. Recipients of the Defenders of Economic Freedom Award must score a 90% or better rating on the Federal Economic Scorecard in the previous legislative year while also maintaining a 90% or better lifetime rating from the Foundation.
“While Joe Biden and his cronies continue to promote the same radical spending that has destroyed the financial stability of hard-working Americans, the Club for Growth applauds the 56 men and women who earned 2022 Defenders of Economic Freedom Awards,” said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. “These conservative champions stood by their principles and fought to restore sanity within the federal budget. We commend their work and encourage all members of Congress to follow their lead on future spending bills.”

The (Club for Growth) Foundation also releases a scorecard of all the members of Congress, where they rate the votes of members on related “pro-growth policies” and compute an “Economic Growth Score” for the members.
Lawmakers who had a score of 90 or higher in 2022 and also have a lifetime score of 90 or higher receive the Defender of Economic Freedom Award.
This year, 57 lawmakers received that award, including Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN), former Nebraska GOP Sen. Ben Sasse, and Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Bob Good (R-VA), and Chip Roy (R-TX).
“What we found that we at the federal level, it’s like the old report card 90 and above is an A,” McIntosh said. “And we publish it so the constituents will know how their members are doing.”
