Club for Growth Blasts Froman Comment In Support Of Combining TPA With TAA
Washington, DC – The Club for Growth today issued the following statement in response to U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman’s comments that Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) should be combined with Trade Promotion Authority (TPA).
According to POLITICO: U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said today that aid for workers displaced by foreign trade should be included when Congress takes up a trade promotion authority bill. “We’ve always insisted that trade adjustment assistance be part of the package,” Froman said at the SelectUSA summit in Washington. “Our hope is that as Congress takes up trade promotion authority, they will marry it to trade adjustment assistance so that we can move this forward.” (POLITICO Pro, 11/1/13)
“Trade Adjustment Assistance is a massive and duplicative government entitlement program that was expanded by Obama’s failed stimulus,” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “It has no business being combined with Trade Promotion Authority.”
