Club for Growth Condemns Short-Term Funding Plan

  |

Today, Club for Growth President David McIntosh issued the following statement in response to news reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would be introducing a short-term funding bill to fund the government through February 8, 2019:

“Congress’ primary responsibility is to make sure the government is funded and spends within its means,” explained Club for Growth President David McIntosh.  “Unfortunately, once again, Congress has shirked its duty and instead chosen to procrastinate.  It’s behavior like this that leaves one with little wonder as to why Republicans in the House lost the majority.

“The kick-the-can-down-the-road approach to government funding is disappointing at best, and at worst it is a dereliction of duty.  This short-term funding bill reaffirms the McConnell-Schumer deal from last year, which ensures $1 trillion future deficits into perpetuity.

“The bottom line is today’s Congress is addicted to spending.  It’s time to stop the madness.  Instead of accepting this short-term funding, Congress should adopt the spending cuts and reforms in President Trump’s budget and demonstrate they are serious about getting our nation’s fiscal house in order.”
