Club for Growth Supports Conservative Opposition to GOP Effort to Retain and Repair Obamacare

“The Obamacare repeal that passed Congress in 2015 must be the starting point for any repeal.”

Washington, DC – Club for Growth president David McIntosh released the following statement in support of conservatives in Congress who say they would reject a GOP Obamacare replacement proposal that was recently leaked:

“Speaker Ryan and Leader McConnell need to stand up to those in the Republican party who are fighting to retain and repair Obamacare, rather than repeal and replace it with free-market health care,” said Club for Growth president David McIntosh. “The Club for Growth stands with conservatives in the Senate and House – including Chairman Mike Lee of the Senate Steering Committee, Chairman Mark Meadows of the House Freedom Caucus, and Chairman Mark Walker of the Republican Study Committee – to urge that the starting point for any repeal be the Obamacare repeal which was passed in Congress in 2015. In addition, replacement legislation must include the kind of free-market initiatives that we’ve seen in bills like the one introduced by Senator Rand Paul and Representative Mark Sanford. Expanding Health Savings Accounts, restoring customer choice to the types of coverage available, creating interstate markets, and letting individuals and small businesses band together to buy coverage, are all key tenets of health care reform that Republicans ran on in 2016, and should fight for today. To do anything less will not lower costs or expand choice, and will leave the Republican party’s majority in jeopardy in 2018.”
