Key Vote Alert – “NO” on Appropriations Minibus
The Club for Growth urges all Senators and Representatives to vote NO on the Appropriations minibus. The results of this vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2024 congressional scorecard. This minibus includes the Agriculture/FDA, Commerce, Justice and Science, Energy and Water, Interior and Environment, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs subcommittee appropriations bills.
Despite continued warning signs, Washington remains committed to feeding its spending addiction and forcing an inevitable debt crisis on hardworking Americans. Federal debt stands at $34.4 trillion, inflation is rising again, and Congress’ unsustainable appetite for spending is a direct threat to the dominance of the U.S. dollar. There is no time left to waste – conservatives must demand spending reductions that will protect American economic strength and the American people. Unfortunately, the bill being considered this week continues the pattern of broken promises by forcing members to vote on a spending package exceeding 1,000 pages with virtually no time to meaningfully review its provisions. At the same time, the bill once again waives both statutory and Senate pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) provisions.
This bill continues the reckless spending conservatives were elected to stop. The six bills contained in this package facilitate spending amounts that are significantly above the $1.59 trillion cap agreed to as a Fiscal Responsibly Act once gimmicks, offsets that fuel additional spending and disaster funding are accounted for. This is before the likely adoption of a security supplemental, which will push discretionary spending levels even higher. What’s more, the bill is fueled by hundreds of earmarks that are used to help push this bill to final passage. Earmarks are the currency of corruption.
Club for Growth implores House and Senate conservatives to demand a long-term continuing resolution past April 30. This would facilitate needed reductions in non-defense discretionary (NDD) outlays through the FRA’s automatic 1% spending reductions while keeping defense spending above FY2023 enacted levels. It will force President Biden to come to the table to make needed cuts to wasteful NDD programs that promote left wing priorities at odds with the common-sense views of the American people.
Club for Growth Foundation’s Congressional Scorecard for the 118th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to the public.
