Key Vote Alert – Senate – YES on Cruz Amdt #969
“YES” on Cruz Amdt. #969 to H.R. 1319
Club for Growth strongly supports Senator Ted Cruz’s amendment #969, which would provide children with an option for in-classroom education instruction if the child’s local public school does not commit to reopening to 5-day-a-week, in-classroom instruction for the remainder of the current school year and the 2021-2022 school year and urges all Senators to vote YES on the amendment. The result of the vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2021 Congressional Scorecard.
Club for Growth has encouraged Congress for nearly a year to deliver parental choice in K-12 education to students and families that are unable to access high-quality education during the coronavirus pandemic. This important amendment would help accommodate a safe re-opening of schools and a return to in-person education by requiring schools to submit a re-opening plan. For students that are not able to access high-quality education because a school is not re-opening, a grant program to assist families with educational costs in order to provide students to alternative education will be established with grants as high as $10,000 per student to offset qualified expenses associated with K-12 education.
Allowing for federal dollars to follow students and parents, rather than educational institutions, will greatly improve parental choice in education, improve educational opportunities for students, and ensure that educational bureaucrats stop playing a game of political chicken at the expense of students’ education.
Club for Growth Foundation’s Congressional Scorecard for the 116th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to the public.
