KEY VOTE ALERT

“YES” on Corker-Toomey Motion to Instruct on Minibus (HR 5895)

The Club for Growth supports the Corker-Toomey tariff bill (S. 3013) and will be key voting the motion to instruct related to the bill as part of consideration of the Minibus bill that is before the Senate (HR 5895). A vote is expected this afternoon. The vote will be included in the Club’s 2018 congressional scorecard.

The Club for Growth previously scored the sponsorship of the Corker-Toomey bill and now the Club is scoring this motion to instruct. As the trade war with China and other countries heats up, it’s imperative that Congress reclaim its authority by supporting this motion. It would require congressional approval of all tariffs designated under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. As we have said before, when an administration is given too much latitude to determine what is a “national security threat”, it is inevitable that overreach will occur. We are seeing that today. Even if Senators philosophically support tariffs, they must support this motion if they believe in the Constitution’s separation of powers.

Our Congressional Scorecard for the 115th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.
