Statement On House Passage Of The Bipartisan Budget Act Of 2019

Club for Growth issued the following statement in response to the passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019 in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would bust the current spending caps by over $300 billion, suspend the debt limit for more than two years, and raise the budget baseline for future spending by almost $2 trillion.

“While a number of House Republicans rightly voted against the Pelosi spending deal, far too many voted to pass it despite claiming to be pro-growth fiscal conservatives,” said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. “Any elected official who claims conservative credentials should be alarmed at the lack of fiscal restraint in this bill, and we urge the Senate as well as President Trump to send negotiators back to the table to start again. There are a number of key Senators in close races who need conservatives to show up at the ballot box, and supporting this bill will ensure many fiscally responsible constituents stay home in those races.”
