Biography

Alex Mealer is a West Point graduate and former U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer who later earned law and business degrees from Harvard University. She went on to build a career in energy finance in Houston, having a solid understanding of economic policy.

A fiscal conservative, Mealer is committed to reducing government waste and expanding economic freedom. She is a Club for Growth aligned candidate who supports free markets, school freedom, term limits, and policies that empower individuals and families while limiting government overreach. If elected, Alex will be a strong fighter for Houstonians.

The Republican primary election was held on March 3, 2026. In a crowded nine-candidate field, Trump-endorsed Alex Mealer finished first with 36% of the vote, advancing to a runoff against State Representative Briscoe Cain, which will be held on May 26, 2026. In 2024, President Trump defeated Kamala Harris in this redrawn Congressional District 59.5% to 39.6%. Because this is considered a safe Republican seat, the Republican primary—and now the upcoming runoff—will be critical in electing the next U.S. Representative.
