Club for Growth PAC Polling: Matt Schlapp Well Positioned To Win Kansas U.S. Senate Republican Nomination

  |

Club for Growth PAC released poll results that show Matt Schlapp in a strong position to win the upcoming Republican primary for the Kansas U.S. Senate seat should Secretary Mike Pompeo, who has a 94% lifetime rating in the Club for Growth Foundation’s scorecard, choose not to run.

“If Secretary Mike Pompeo does not run for the Republican nomination for the Kansas seat in the U.S. Senate, Matt Schlapp’s conservative credentials and support of President Trump make him well positioned to win the nomination,” said Club for Growth PAC President David McIntosh. “Obviously Sec. Pompeo would be a great Senator. The Club for Growth also believes Schlapp would be a very effective champion of pro-growth policies in Congress in the Senate.”

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Schlapp’s narrative is much more compelling to Kansas Republican primary voters than Roger Marshall’s. Marshall has a 74% lifetime rating in the Club for Growth Foundation’s scorecard.

  • Schlapp’s narrative is stronger with key primary voter groups including Trump Republicans and very conservative primary voters.

The poll was conducted by WPA Intelligence (WPAi) for Club for Growth PAC. WPAi selected a random sample of registered voters from the Kansas voter file with a probability of selection equal to the probability of a voter voting in the Republican primary (PPS sampling). Data were collected by live telephone interviews June 3-6, 2019. The sample stratified based on geography, age, and gender based on WPAi’s GOP primary turnout model. The margin of error is ±4.4% in 95 out of 100 cases with 37% cell phone interviews.
